On the afternoon of March 5, the meeting on the construction of national CAM (Center for Applied Mathematics) was held in the School of Mathematics, Shandong University. The participants include President Fan Liming, Vice President Li Shucai, heads of relevant functional departments, School of Mathematics and related scientific research institutions. The meeting was presided by Qu Mingjun, the Secretary of Party Committee of School of Mathematics.

Chen Zengjing, Dean of School of Mathematics, made reports on the construction of national CAM and following systematic design of mathematics in strengthening frontier scientific research by originating mathematical formulas, strengthening mathematical application to deduce mathematical formulas and serving key national demands by consolidating mathematical formulas. He advocated the university would improve the coordinated development of mathematics on frontier research, application research and industries to make mathematical contributions to the construction of "double first-rate" university.

President Fan Liming listened to work reports of School of Mathematics, Zhongtai Securities Institute for Financial Studies and Research Center for Mathematics and Interdisciplinary Sciences. She highly appreciated the development and achievements of mathematics in recent years and put forward new requests and expectations for the future work of mathematics. She pointed out that platform construction is an important support for the construction of "double first-rate" universities. She hoped that the School of Mathematics would seize the historical opportunity to actively plan and build the three major platforms in following aspects: first, the certification of frontier scientific center of nonlinear expectation by the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China, second, the plan of key national mathematical laboratory, third, the construction of Shandong CAM. She pointed out that Shandong CAM, led by Shandong University, was approved for construction as one of the initiatives, which indicates state's trust and recognition to the School of Mathematics, Shandong University. She hoped that the School of Mathematics would work out specific plan, schedule and construction drawings on building Shandong CAM as soon as possible to accelerate the pace of the construction of the center, and strive to build the center into a national first-class application center under the guidance of the Ministry of Science and Technology of the People's Republic of China and the Department of Science & Technology of Shandong Province to make contributions to the scientific and technological development of China. Fan hoped the School of Mathematics would strengthen talent recruitment and education widely and openly and move forward first by making trials; make plans on choosing leading talents and make efforts to build the talent team; improve management efficiency and quality and mobilize the initiative and creativity of management personnel; actively seek good business partners to better serve the discipline development and the center construction. At last, Fan answered questions regarding new problems in mathematics development and put forward solutions and suggestions.

Li Shucai and other school leaders and functional department heads respectively gave instructions and suggestions on the development of mathematics, the reform idea and the construction plan of national CAM.
