In recent days, the National Natural Science Foundation of China has published the assessment results for the Outstanding-Youth Funding Projects of National Natural Science. The project of "Analytic Number Theory" presided and submitted by Professor Zhao Lilu in our School achieved the project funding with a direct fund of RMB1,200,000.
The research orientation of this project is analytic number theory, which is mainly engaged in the research topics like the application of analytic methods in Diophantine equation, the nature of fourier coefficient in the automorphic form and addition combinatorics. The method developed by Professor Zhao Lilu in the topic attracted an extensive attention from peers at home and abroad, which was quoted in multiple dissertations by T.D.Wooley, a globally famous expert in number theory and member of Royal Society, UK, and named as the Zhao Method.
The Science Outstanding-Youth Funding Project was set by National Natural Science Foundation of China in 2012, which is intended to support the young scholars who have achieved good results in fundamental research to choose research orientations independently and initiate innovative researches, and thereby cultivating a group of excellent academic backbones promising enough to enter the frontier of science and technology in the world. The funding is also one of the highest funding projects set in our country and an important index to assess the level of one university in academy and scientific research. For years, National Natural Science Foundation of China has been concerned by all the colleges, universities and research institutes.
Our School has always been putting a high attention to the work of scientific research, optimizing the administration and incentive policies for scientific research, and enforcing talent cultivation and the construction of academic innovation teams. For recent years, our School has maintained a good development trend of project setup and funding volume in National Natural Science Foundation of China. Professor Zhao Lilu's achievement of the funding has a boosting effect of great significance on improving the development of mathematics research in our School.
